Since Godaddy changed their control panel around, it made a lot of the posts online about how to change your nameserver or register new nameserver with Godaddy, outdated and useless! I have seen a lot of people asking on forums and such, how to change or register nameservers with Godaddy, so I’m going to give you a step by step tutorial on how to do just that! :)

To Change Nameservers at Godaddy.com

Step 1:
Login to your Godaddy account, and click on “My Account”

Step 2:
Click On “Domains”

Step 3:
You’ll see all of your registered domain names in a list in the middle of the page. Put a check mark next to the domain(s) you want to change the nameservers for.

Step 4:
When you checked the box, you probably noticed all the icons at the top lit up. With the domain(s) that you want to edit, checked, click on “Nameservers”.

Step 5:
A box will expand and you’ll see thre options. Check the button that says “Custom Nameservers”.
In the box for nameserver 1 enter your 1st nameserver, which is usally something like NS1.YOURHOST.COM. In the second box, for nameserver 2, enter your second nameserver which is usually something like NS2.YOURHOST.COM. Then click “OK”

Your done! You should now be go to go, and your domain should show up online within the next 20 minutes or so. It sometimes takes a little longer but, Godaddy is really good about their propagation times.

You’ll see all the info for the domain in front of you now. Scroll toward the bottom and look on the left for “Host Summary”. Click on the “Add” link right next to it.

Step 5:
In the box that comes up, enter “NS1″ (without the quotes) in the first box for the “Host Name”

Step 6:
In the box for Host IP 1 you should enter the IP address for your NS1 nameserver. If you don’t know the IP for your nameservers you can use Network Tools. Go to NT and check the button “DNS Records”, then underneath enter the nameserver (NS1.YOURHOST.COM). Click “Submit”, and on the next page it should tell you the IP for NS1 and NS2. Enter those IP’s into Godaddy for Host IP 1, and the NS2 for Host IP 2.

Click “OK” at Godaddy and you’re done! You have now registered your own nameserver IP’s for your domain!
